Security

Kamloops campus security services are provided by Paladin Security 24 hours a day. The information/security/lost and found desk is in Old Main on BMO Student Street. The Security Office is in Old Main 1226 next to Print Services.

Security provides the following services:

First aid

Kamloops: provided by Paladin Security 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Attendants are trained in the recognition of opioid overdose and provision of Narcan/Naloxone.

Williams Lake: provided by designated first aid attendants on site.

For detailed information on how to contact first aid (both in Kamloops and Williams Lake), when to call first aid vs an ambulance or going to hospital and the resulting reporting procedures please check here.

Safe Walk

There are two options for student and employee safe walks.

Safe Walk with Campus Security

Campus security is available 24/7 to provide an escort. To request an escort from security:

  • Call campus security
    • Kamloops campus at 250-828-5033 or local 5033 from any office line or press ‘info’ on any of the indoor or outdoor emergency phones
    • Williams Lake campus at 250-214-9610 after hours
  • Use the TRU SAFE app. Press ‘Kamloops Safe Walk with Security’ or ‘Williams Lake Safe Walk with Security’
  • Remember to give the security officer your name, contact information, exact location (building name, office/classroom number, or entry number), and your desired destination. Wait for your escort inside the building if possible.

TRU SAFE Virtual Friend Walk

The app sends the user’s position to a contact through email or SMS or messaging client on the device. Once the friend accepts the Friend Walk request, the user picks their destination and their friend tracks their location in real time; they keep an eye on them to make sure they make it safely to their destination.

The user has a panic button that alerts their friend of an emergency and also triggers a call to emergency services. If the friend closes the window where they’re monitoring the user, the user is notified and given the option to call emergency services immediately. When the user reaches their destination they end the trip and are no longer tracked by their friend.

Lost and Found

Ask about lost and found items at the Information/Security desk on BMO Student Street in Old Main. Or call 250-828-5033. USB drives are forwarded to computer lab support at OM 1326.

Campus security keeps items up to one month. Every effort is made to contact the rightful owner where possible. Unclaimed items are donated to charity. Personal items such as water bottles are disposed of. For questions about lost and found, see TRU Lost and Found policy ADM 16-0.

Access

If you need out-of-hours access, Security can provide this service, but they require advance authorization and proof of identity.

Outdoor emergency phone locations
