Repair Café

TRU Repair Café and Clothing Exchange open to Kamloops community

TRU Repair Café

Do you have small household appliances or clothing that need to be repaired or altered, including heavy-duty workwear or outdoor gear? Instead of throwing them away, bring your items to the TRU Repair Café and give them a new lease on life.

Date: Tuesday, Mar. 12
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location (on campus): TRU Library Makerspace, located on the first floor of the Brown Family House of Learning, behind Tim Hortons

Local volunteers will be on-site to help repair your items and even teach you valuable repair skills!

This event is organized by Kamloops Repair Café, TRU Makerspace, and the TRU Sustainability Office. It’s free and open to students, employees, and the public—no registration required. Repairs are done on a first-come, first-served basis.

What can you bring?

We welcome small electrical items, clothing, bicycles, and small wooden furniture for repairs.

Items not accepted:

  • Footwear
  • Gas or other fuel-powered devices
  • Computers or cellphones
  • Large or heavy items requiring two or more people to carry

Have a question about whether your item is eligible? Email repaircafe@transitionkamloops.net for clarification.

Repair Café volunteers will assess whether your item is reparable or whether it should be sustainably recycled or disposed of.

This event is organized by the TRU Sustainability Office, TRU Library Makerspace and Repair Café Kamloops. All TRU and Kamloops community members are welcome, and no registration is required.

How we fit in with sustainable development goals

4: Quality Education

This goal aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education is available and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The Repair Café provides a platform for informal education by teaching people practical skills related to repairing and maintaining everyday items. This event encourages lifelong learning by fostering a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement.

11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

This goal aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The Repair Café contributes to this goal by providing a space that invites all members of the community to participate in sustainable practices. Participants work together as a community to contribute to their collective sustainability and develop strong bonds.

12: Responsible Consumption and Production

This goal aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

The Repair Café enables people to expand the lifespan of their items through repairs, contributing to responsible consumption and production. Repairing instead of discarding reduces waste, conserves resources, and minimizes the environmental impact of consumer goods. By actively combating the culture of planned obsolescence, where products are intentionally designed with a limited lifespan, Repair Cafés contribute to a more sustainable consumption pattern.
