Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

TRU’s vision statement aims to establish the university as a place of belonging, or Kw'seltktnews (we are all related and interconnected with nature, each other, and all things). TRU is committed to fostering inclusive environments for everyone in the community and all equity deserving groups. We are committed to developing and implementing our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan that guides our efforts toward achieving these important goals.

Campus Operations

Employment Equity policy (ADM 04-1)

Under TRU's employment equity policy, the university is responsible for promoting the interests of women, Indigenous peoples, people with diverse needs, and racialized minorities.

Harassment and Discrimination Prevention policy

Outlines TRU’s commitment to preventing harassment and discrimination across campus.

Respectful Workplace and Harassment Prevention course

This online training introduces members of the university community to harassment, discrimination and respectful workplace principles.

Sexualized Violence and Response

The Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response Office provides education and awareness programming, supports implementation of TRU’s Sexualized Violence Policy, and offers direct support to individuals affected by sexualized and intimate partner violence.

Gender and Sexual Diversity

TRU supports 2SLGBTQPIA+ students through education, advocacy and inclusion initiatives that promote safety, accessibility and belonging on campus and beyond.

Canada Research Chairs: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

TRU has endorsed Canada's Dimensions Charter ;committing to embed its eight principles into institutional policies, practices, and action plans.

Women in Trades

TRU's Women in Trades program supports the recruitment and participation of women in skilled trades through targeted programming, mentorship and hands-on learning experiences that encourage entry into traditionally underrepresented fields.

TRUSU Pride Parade

Organized by TRUSU, the Pride Parade brings students, faculty and community members together to celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, visibility and belonging while fostering a welcoming and supportive campus environment.

Community Partnerships and Outreach

Cariboo Child Care Society

Cariboo Child Care Society is a not- for- profit and provides childcare for TRU students first, followed by TRU faculty and staff and the community.

Women in Engineering

An annual Women in Engineering event engages girls in Grades 8-12 through hands-on engineering workshops and activities, providing opportunities to connect with faculty, explore engineering facilities and learn about pathways into engineering education and careers.

Girls Exploring Trades and Technology

Through Girls Exploring Trades and Technology, TRU provides female secondary school students with hands-on experiences in a variety of trades led by Red Seal instructors, helping build confidence and encouraging participation in trades education and careers.

Women in Leadership Series: Beyond numbers, what do stories tell us?

TRU hosted a community event featuring personal and professional stories from two women who are leading equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives in Canada’s post-secondary landscape.

Research and Innovation

Migrant Care Worker Precarity Project

Dr. Jennifer Shaw co-leads the Migrant Care Worker Precarity Project, which examines Canada’s migrant care worker programs and generates research on how immigration and labour policy affects care workers.

Reimagining Care/Work Policies

Dr. Lindsey McKay serves as a Co-Investigator, Steering Committee Member and Parental Leave Cluster Leader for this national research project, which examines parental, maternity and paternity leave policies and benefits to identify ways of better supporting parents and caregivers during early childhood.
