Program Overview

Wildfires demand timely, accurate and culturally sensitive communication. The Wildfire Communication and Media Certificate at Thompson Rivers University is designed to equip students and professionals with the skills to navigate complex media landscapes and build trust during wildfire crises.

Developed in partnership with BCWS, this innovative program blends crisis communication theories with practical training in media relations, professional communication and community engagement. Students will develop strategies to communicate across diverse audiences, analyze media depictions of wildfires and address ethical challenges in real-time. By integrating hands-on learning with interdisciplinary studies, this certificate prepares graduates to create meaningful, impactful communication in response to wildfire events locally and globally.

  • Completion of BC Grade 12 or equivalent (Adult Dogwood or Mature Student status)
  • English Studies 12/English First Peoples 12 with a minimum grade of 73%
