Nurse Practitioners, Family Physicians, Midwives

The future of health care and nurse practitioners is not possible without preceptors

Have you considered being a preceptor for NP students?

Preceptorship provides students with

  • Opportunity to apply their learning in clinical practice
  • Understanding of the responsibilities of a graduate NP
  • Support and guidance during real clinical experience
  • Feedback to enhance learning and facilitate progress
  • Opportunity to minimize the reality shock commonly experienced during the transition from the role of RN to NP

Benefits of becoming a preceptor

Fulfilling triad relationship

Nurse Practitioner student practicum learning functions through an effective triad of student, preceptor, and clinical faculty.

Fulsome preceptor support

TRU provides preceptor-centred support materials and ongoing connections with faculty.

Adjunct faculty opportunities

Preceptors are eligible to apply to be Adjunct Faculty in the School of Nursing at TRU.

Compensation

Preceptors now get paid to supervise Nurse Practitioner students! Rates are set and funded by British Columbia’s Ministry of Health and paid by the University.
