Plumber

Plumbers install, alter and repair the systems that keep our water and waste disposal systems running, and that provide many of the basic amenities we rely on day-to-day. They read and interpret blueprints and project specifications. Plumbers also select the type and size of pipe required for a project and measure, shape and join pipes according to the appropriate specifications.

Students gain familiarity with the hand and power tools used in the field. Hands-on use of piping materials like copper, cast iron, black iron, and plastics. The theory portion of the course includes safety, trade math, science, piping materials and code.

Education requirements

  • High school graduation (or equivalent) or mature student status
  • English 11 with a minimum grade of C (or equivalent)
  • Math 10 with a minimum grade of C (any Math 10 or equivalent)

Pre-test schedule

To arrange for the Accuplacer test contact the TRU Assessment Centre at 250-828-5470. Arrangements can be made for out-of-town applicants to write the pre-test at an authorized testing centre in their community.

Plumber

At TRU the four levels or years of the plumbing apprenticeship training are offered. Level 4 leads to Interprovincial Plumbing Trades Qualification.

Requirements

Apprentices must purchase the required textbooks and provincial competency manuals. Students are also required to pay tuition fees while attending TRU.
